According to Doreen Jaeger-Soong, managing director of Hughes-Castell (HK) the recovery of the economy has created an upswing in financial services markets as confidence in the market strengthens.

"Having gone through almost apocalyptic upheavals in the past 12 months, the financial services markets in Asia have recovered to a certain degree and now find that they are understaffed for the sudden resurgence in activity.  With hard lessons learned, institutions are strengthening legal and compliance departments and upgrading and enhancing the existing capabilities," she said.

"Regulatory and compliance are in great demand, for funds and asset management houses and for investment banks.  With greater burdens on reporting requirements, there is also a definite trend to hire legally qualified professionals into regulatory and compliance roles, at a senior level."
