This is an excellent opportunity for a top-tier construction/projects lawyer to head up the legal team for this US integrated engineering, construction and technical services organization. They support every stage of the project life cycle—from inception through start-up and operation to decommissioning and closure.
Position Summary
As a member of the Asia & Asia-Pacific legal team the Legal Counsel will be responsible for the review and negotiation of a range of commercial contracts, including contracts for projects in India and Southeast Asia. You will provide general legal advice on various matters in Asia and Asia-Pacific. The successful candidate must have experience working with one or more US multi-national companies and in implementing their compliance policies – including their FCPA compliance policies
Responsibilities/Objectives
The primary task of Legal Counsel Asia/Asia Pacific is to draft, review and negotiate engineering and construction contracts.
In addition, given the nature of the role, the successful candidate will also be required to:
a. review tender documentation, letters of intent, alliance contracts and goods contracts;
b. provide general legal advice with a commercial focus in areas including commercial, construction, environmental, insurance and intellectual property law;
c. provide assistance in aspects of professional indemnity and public liability claims;
d. provide advice on legal risk management and mitigation strategies;
e. conduct training sessions for operational staff on legal issues; and
f. manage corporate litigation matters, including liaising with external legal service providers in respect of such matters.
Reporting relationships
Reporting directly to Regional Legal Counsel, Asia & Asia-Pacific.
The successful candidate is also required to liaise directly with operations staff, including the regional managers located within India, Australia, New Zealand, China and South East Asia.
