Our client is an oil & gas major with significant operations in Asia Pac.  This role sits within the IST legal team in Singapore. The team provides the IST EH (Eastern Hemisphere) business with a full range of commercial and regulatory legal support for its day to day trading activities.

Key aspects of the role:

• Providing legal advice to the IST business on complex legal issues.
• Providing day-to-day transactional assistance in the nature of drafting and supporting the negotiation of physical and paper commodities purchase and sale agreements, transportation and storage agreements and project agreements; advising as to the relevant laws and regulations applicable to commodities transactions in a variety of jurisdictions.
• Advising on new projects and strategic initiatives including the expansion of the business into new markets and jurisdictions.
• Handling a variety of disputes relating to trading contracts and cargo claims.
• Reviewing, drafting and supporting the negotiation of credit support agreements such as guarantees, master netting agreements (including ISDAs) and security agreements.
• Instructing, managing and liaising with external counsel in a variety of jurisdictions.
• Handling governmental and regulatory investigations.

Essential experience and job requirements

• Proven track record with experience of working as a lawyer preferably within an in-house environment.
• Previous experience in providing legal support in relation to commodity trading for physical and paper commodities including contracts, disputes, projects, regulatory issues and structured transactions would be beneficial.  Knowledge of oil trading would also be beneficial.

Candidates should be qualified either in Singapore OR a common-law jurisdiction.
